Radon emanation from dust of varying composition and size

Abstract 222 Rn emanating from environmental dust constitutes an important background component for many low-energy, low-rate experiments. Radon emanation rates and rock, thus, are experiment planning. In this paper, we report measured radon fractions five types of dry differing in grain size composition. These data were obtained by a novel technique γ -spectroscopy, measuring emanated non-emanated progeny activities as well the parent 226 Ra activity time series. The range observed is (3.7 ± 2.0)% to (16.2 0.9)%. Four samples standardized available commercially, so additional investigations these may be readily carried out.
